Wet Leg

Wet Leg

“We wanted to write songs that were fun to play, so we did.”

Wet Leg is a British indie rock band from the Isle of Wight, founded in 2019 by Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers. Known for their dry wit, catchy guitar riffs, and post-punk revival energy, the duo quickly rose to international fame. The band was formed after Teasdale and Chambers, who met at Isle of Wight College ten years earlier, decided to start a musical project together after watching a concert that inspired them to pick up guitars. They signed with Domino Recording Company and released their debut single, 'Chaise Longue,' in June 2021, which became a viral sensation on streaming services and social media.

Their self-titled debut album, Wet Leg, was released in April 2022 to widespread critical acclaim. The record debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, the Australian Albums Chart, and the Irish Albums Chart. In addition to 'Chaise Longue,' the album features notable hits like 'Wet Dream,' 'Too Late Now,' and 'Angelica.' Their music is characterized by humorous, deadpan lyricism that captures the anxieties and absurdities of young adulthood, layered over vibrant indie-pop melodies and driving post-punk beats.

In 2023, Wet Leg achieved major award recognition, winning two Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Music Album (for their debut album) and Best Alternative Music Performance (for 'Chaise Longue'). They also swept the 2023 Brit Awards, winning Best New Artist and British Group. The band has toured extensively across the globe, opening for major acts like Harry Styles on his Love on Tour and appearing at festivals like Glastonbury and Coachella. Their songs have been featured in various movie and television soundtracks, including DC Studios' Supergirl (2026) featuring their track 'catch these fists'.

Trivia

The name 'Wet Leg' was chosen randomly by playing with an emoji keyboard on their phones, selecting combinations until they hit on the phrase.

Before forming Wet Leg, Rhian Teasdale performed as a folk singer-songwriter under the moniker RHAIN and was active in the local Isle of Wight music scene.

The viral music video for their breakout hit 'Chaise Longue' was co-directed by Rhian Teasdale herself and filmed in Hester Chambers' stepmother's backyard.

At the 2023 Grammy Awards, the band famously accepted their award for Best Alternative Music Performance by quoting the movie Mean Girls, saying, 'I think I'm going to pee my pants'.
