About the Show
Youth is an eight-episode HBO original comedy series created, written by, and starring BAFTA winner Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters, Catastrophe). The London-set series follows Alex (Horgan), a sharp-witted 50-year-old literary agent navigating the messy reality of life after a divorce. As Alex dips her toes back into dating, love, and sex in modern London, she finds herself caught in the middle of a chaotic sandwich generation dilemma: managing the care of her aging parents while attempting to guide her young adult son Ruari (Aran Murphy), who is struggling to find his footing as he transitions into adulthood. The ensemble cast also stars Rupert Friend as Patrick, Sharlene Whyte as Alex's best friend Sam, and Robbie Gee as Frank.
Driving the show's vibrant British energy and sharp observational humor is a carefully curated soundtrack that bridges generational soundscapes. Featuring an original score by Jeff Cardoni alongside standout needle drops from Radiohead, Fiona Apple, LCD Soundsystem, The Velvet Underground, and Santigold's infectious indie-pop anthem 'Disparate Youth', the music captures the push-and-pull between aging, independence, and reignited ambition.
