Phoebe Bridgers

Phoebe Bridgers

“I'm not having an identity crisis, I'm having an aesthetic crisis.”

Phoebe Bridgers (born October 12, 1994) is an American singer-songwriter whose intimate acoustic style, dark lyrics, and melancholic melodies have made her a leading voice in modern indie folk. Raised in Pasadena, California, she studied vocal jazz at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. She began her musical journey playing in local punk bands and releasing her debut single 'Killer' in 2015, which caught the attention of the indie music community.

Her breakthrough came with her debut studio album, Stranger in the Alps (2017), which received widespread critical acclaim. Featuring standout tracks like 'Motion Sickness' and 'Funeral,' the album showcased her gift for blending highly personal, conversational storytelling with gorgeous, minimalist folk arrangements. She followed this success with Punisher (2020), a masterpiece that explored themes of isolation, nostalgia, and emotional apocalypse. The album earned four Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist, and solidified her position as a critical darling and a major force in alternative music.

In addition to her solo career, Bridgers is a prolific collaborator. She is a founding member of the indie supergroup boygenius (alongside Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus) and the folk-rock duo Better Oblivion Community Center (with Conor Oberst). At the 2024 Grammy Awards, she won four awards, including three with boygenius and one for her collaboration with SZA on 'Ghost in the Machine.' Known for her dry wit, trademark skeleton suit, and emotional honesty, Bridgers continues to inspire a passionate following worldwide.

Trivia

She is famous for her signature skeleton suit, which she originally bought for a Halloween performance but loved so much she began wearing it for almost all of her concerts, promotional shoots, and high-profile award shows.

Bridgers is a founding member of the acclaimed indie rock supergroup boygenius alongside Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker. The trio won three Grammy Awards in 2024 for their debut full-length album, *the record*.

In 2020, she launched her own record label, Saddest Factory Records, an imprint of Dead Oceans, signing breakthrough alternative artists such as MUNA, Claud, and Sloppy Jane.

Before finding solo fame, Phoebe Bridgers worked as a commercial actress and singer, famously performing a cover of Pixies' 'Gigantic' in an iPhone commercial in 2014, which helped fund her early musical recordings.
