Mumford & Sons
βA lot of the time it feels likeβ¦ music is some sort of excuse to be a human. It's kind of like people need that excuse to go and put their arms in the air and sing their hearts out.β
Mumford & Sons is an English folk rock band formed in London in 2007. The band consists of Marcus Mumford (lead vocals, acoustic guitar, drums), Ben Lovett (vocals, keyboards, piano), and Ted Dwane (vocals, double bass, bass guitar). The group was completed by former member Winston Marshall (banjo, electric guitar) from their inception until his departure in 2021. Emerging during the West London folk renaissance, they quickly gained momentum with their signature high-energy live shows, acoustic instrumentation, and soaring group vocal harmonies.
Their debut studio album, Sigh No More (2009), was a massive commercial success, spearheaded by hit singles like 'Little Lion Man' and 'The Cave.' It earned them a Brit Award for Best British Album and established their global presence. They followed this success with Babel (2012), which debuted at number one in both the UK and US, becoming the fastest-selling album of the year and winning the prestigious Grammy Award for Album of the Year. With Wilder Mind (2015), the band made a notable stylistic shift, replacing their acoustic banjos and double basses with electric guitars and synthesizers. They continued to evolve their sound on subsequent albums, including Delta (2018), Rushmere (2025), and Prizefighter (2026), blending atmospheric synth-pop and arena rock with their acoustic roots.
