George Michael

George Michael (born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou on June 25, 1963 – December 25, 2016) was an English singer, songwriter, and record producer who rose to fame as one half of the music duo Wham! and later established one of the most successful solo careers in pop history. Born in East Finchley, London, to a Greek Cypriot father and an English mother, he began his musical journey in his teens, forming Wham! in 1981 alongside school friend Andrew Ridgeley. The duo's infectious, high-energy pop anthems like 'Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go' and the classic ballad 'Careless Whisper' made them global icons of the 1980s.

In 1987, Michael embarked on a solo career, releasing his monumentally successful debut album 'Faith.' Serving as the sole writer and producer for nearly the entire record, he shifted his image to a mature, leather-clad soul-pop singer. The album sold over 25 million copies worldwide, earned the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and produced four chart-topping singles. Known for his soulful, expressive vocal range and brilliant songwriting, Michael continued to release critically acclaimed works, such as the introspective 'Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1' (1990) and the elegant 'Older' (1996), which addressed themes of grief, identity, and personal struggle.

Beyond his musical achievements, Michael was a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, HIV/AIDS awareness, and various philanthropic causes. Following his sudden passing in 2016, it was revealed that he had spent decades secretly donating millions to charities, choosing to keep his immense generosity anonymous during his lifetime.
