Blondie

Blondie is an iconic American rock band formed in New York City in 1974 by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. Emerged from the legendary downtown Manhattan underground music scene centered around the CBGB club alongside the Ramones and Talking Heads, Blondie became central pioneers of the American New Wave and punk rock movements. Driven by Debbie Harry's charismatic, street-smart vocal delivery and timeless fashion aesthetic, combined with Stein's eclectic songwriting, Clem Burke's explosive drumming, and Jimmy Destri's synth hooks, Blondie achieved monumental global success by masterfully bridging underground punk edge with polished disco, pop, reggae, and hip-hop influences.

The band achieved international superstardom with their breakthrough third studio album, Parallel Lines (1978), which spawned the chart-topping global mega-hit 'Heart of Glass'—a landmark track that fused punk attitude with disco grooves. Blondie continued to dominate global music charts with timeless classics including 'One Way or Another,' 'Call Me' (composed with Giorgio Moroder for the film American Gigolo), 'Atomic,' 'Dreaming,' and 'The Tide Is High.' In 1981, Blondie made music history with 'Rapture,' becoming the first band ever to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with a song featuring rap vocals, introduced by Debbie Harry's famous salute to hip-hop pioneers Fab 5 Freddy and Grandmaster Flash. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, Blondie has sold over 40 million records worldwide.

Blondie's music remains a perennial cornerstone of film and television soundtracks. Their high-octane tracks have featured prominently in major productions across generations, including Scarface, Mean Girls, Donnie Darko, The Bride!, and Scott Waugh's 2026 action thriller Runner (Três Horas Para Viver), where 'Heart of Glass' fuels a high-speed highway chase and 'Hanging on the Telephone' plays over the end credits.
